Round 1: CH 3, 2 DC, *CH 2, 3 DC, from *5 times. CH 1, SC in Beg CH.

Round 2: CH 3, 2 DC, *CH 1,3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in corner CH 2: from *5 times. CH 1, 3 DC in BEG corner, CH 1, SC in Beg CH.

Round 3: CH 3, 2 DC, *CH 1, 3 DC in next CH 1 SP, CH 1, 3 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in corner; from *5 times. CH 1, 3 DC in BEG corner, CH 1, SC in Beg CH.

Would it be possible to continue this for more rounds making it into a blanket?

Yes, you can keep making this larger to make a blanket. As with any project like this, you may need to adjust your chains between stitches and the corners to keep your sides and corners even. If the corners are pulling and curling, that means that you do not have enough chains between stitches. If your sides are very wavy and your corners are out way farther then the sides, that is a good indication that you have to many chains between the stitches on the sides and you have to many chains in the corners. You can adjust accordingly.
