Written by Teresa Richardson

I used a chain of 38 with the swatch in the video. This gives me 10 inches. Each wheel is approximately 2-3/4 inches across.

Baby Afghan - Chain 122. This amount includes the plus 2. This will create 10 wheels. For each additional wheel you want to make, crochet 12 more chains. Estimated is width 33 inches. Width will vary with the hook size and crochet tension.

Materials
Size K/6.5mm Hook
4 Ply Yarn

Multiple 12 + 2

Abbreviations
TC - Triple Crochet
SC - Single Crochet

Joined Stitches - The joined stitches will be done by wrapping the yarn around your hook twice, insert the hook through the stitch, pull the yarn through the stitch, wrap the yarn over your hook, pull through two loops, wrap the yarn over, pull through two loops. Leave the last loop of each stitch on your hook.

Row 1: 1 SC in the 2nd chain from the hook, *skip 5 chains, 9 TC in the next chain, skip 5 chains, SC in the next chain, repeat from * across for each wheel.

Row 2: Right Edge - CH 5, Work a triple crochet in each of the next 4 TC leaving the last loop on the hook, You will have 5 loops on the hook, wrap the yarn over and pull through all 5 loops, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through to secure. You have completed the 1/4 wheel on the right edge. Center Wheel - CH 5, SC in the next SC(5th TC), *CH 5, Work a TC in each of the next 4 TC, 1 SC, 4 TC leaving the last loop on the hook, there will be 10 loops on the hook, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through all loops, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through to secure and complete the 1/2 wheel. CH 5, SC in the next SC(5th TC), Repeat across from * across for each wheel. Left Edge -CH 5, Work a triple crochet in each of the next 5 TC leaving the last loop on the hook, You will have 6 loops on the hook, wrap the yarn over and pull through all 6 loops, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through to secure. That will complete the bottom section of the 1/4 wheel on the left edge.

Row 3: Right Edge - CH 5, work 4 TC in the joining loop to complete the top 1/4 of the wheel. SC in the next SC. Center Wheel -*9 TC in the next center, joining space to complete the top 1/2 of the wheel. SC in the next SC. Repeat across from * for each wheel. Left Edge - 5 TC in the edge joining to complete 1/4 wheel.

Row 4: CH 1, turn, SC in the same stitch, *CH 5, Work a TC in each of the next 4 TC, 1 SC, 4 TC leaving the last loop on the hook, there will be 10 loops on the hook, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through all loops, wrap the yarn over the hook and pull through to secure and complete the 1/2 wheel. CH 5, SC in the next SC(5th TC), Repeat across from * across for each wheel.

Row 5: CH 1, turn, SC in the same SC, *9 TC in the center joining space of the next stitch. This will complete the top portion of the wheel, SC in the next SC. Repeat across from * for each wheel.

Repeat rows 2-5 for the remainder of the length of the pattern.

Suggested edgings: You can end with a flat edge and use a single crochet. I also recommend using row 5 to match up the wheels on the edge, for a rounded edging.

Wonderful! Thank you so much.
Teresa, thanks for all the time you spend writing these tutorials and putting the videos together.
It's all thanks to you that I'm confidently crocheting after many years of trying to teach myself from books.

I really like to make a pullover or clothes for my son ( 8 months old) and also a pullover for me. Do you have any tutorial for that? I bought a book but could not understand the instruction given. I beleive many of us will like it. Thank you so much Teresa.

Hi Teresa;
I think I am one of your biggest fans. I sit by my computer and work along with you. I was happy to see that the "large wheel stitch Catherine's Wheel is 40 minutes. My blanket will be for a baby, and my colors are yellow abd green. I'm sure it will be as pretty as yours. Thanks for the lesson

I am a guy and a closet crocheter. LOL I hate going to the fabric stores for anything because of the way I get treated; however, I have enjoyed watching your vid's and appreciate your diagram of the stitches. I'm almost done with a king size afghan for my mother-in-law. Now, I'm looking for my next project and have been experimenting with patterns from your vid's and mikeysmail. Thank you, thank you. Nobody beside the church ladies teach crochet in my area... and the husbands give me such a look.... Again, thanks.

Question: do you have a stitch diagram for the catherines wheel that mikeysmail uses? The one you have posted is easier to do than his, but his seems to have an alternating pattern. By comparing the two I might be able to actually understand the catherines wheel.
