Streamer Crochet Hat Teresa Richardson - with Brim by Bethintx1 - Elizabeth Ham

This is the streamer crochet hat  created by Teresa Richardson aka Crochet Geek, with a brim addition created by Elizabeth Ham aka Bethintx1 on YouTube. 
It makes a nice summer hat!

Size I/5.5mm Crochet Hook

Increase - Double Crochet, CHain 1, Double Crochet, Chain 1, all in the same space

Round 1: CH 4, *DC through the loop, CH 1, repeat 9 times total from *. Slip stitch to join with the beginning chain 3. (10 Double Crochet Chain 1 total)

Round 2: Attach contrasting color of yarn, CH 1, 2 SC in the previous CH space. CH 1, Skip over the double crochet, *work 2 SC in the next CH 1 SP, CH 1. Continue from * working in each CH 1 space. Slip stitch to join with the beginning chain 3. (20 Single Crochet Total with 10 Chain 1 between each set of 2)

Round 3: CH 4, DC in the same Stitch(this is the first increase stitch), CH 1, DC, CH 1 in the next Stitch. *Double Crochet, Chain 1, Double Crochet, Chain 1 in the next stitch for the increase, work an individual Double Crochet, Chain 1 in the next stitch. Continue around from *. Slip stitch to join with the beginning chain 3. There will be 5 increases and 5 individual stitches worked. (15 Double Crochet, Chain 1 total) There will be 5 increases done on this round.

Round 4: Attach contrasting color of yarn, CH 1, 2 SC in the previous CH space. CH 1, Skip over the double crochet, *work 2 SC in the next CH 1 SP, CH 1. Continue from * working in each CH 1 space. Slip stitch to join with the beginning chain 3. (30 Single Crochet Total with 15Chain 1 between each set of 2)

Round 5: CH 4, DC in the next stitch, CH 1. DC, CH 1, DC, CH 1 in the next stitch for the first increase. *Work an individual DC, CH1 in each of the next 2 stitches, Work an increase of DC, CH1, DC, CH1 in the next individual stitch. Continue around from *, slip stitch to join with the beginning chain 3. (20 Double Crochet, Chain 1 total) The increases are staggered on this round and worked in the stitches on the previous round that were not increases. (20 Double Crochet, Chain 1 total) There will be 5 increases done on this round.

Round 6: Attach contrasting color of yarn, CH 1, 2 SC in the previous CH space. CH 1, Skip over the double crochet, *work 2 SC in the next CH 1 SP, CH 1. Continue from * working in each CH 1 space. Slip stitch to join with the beginning chain 3. (40 Single Crochet Total with 20 Chain 1 between each set of 2)

(40 Double Crochet, Chain 1 total) There will be 10 increases done on this round.

Stitch Instructions and Definitions
Continual Round - Do not Join.  Work in the top of the first stitch. This will eliminate the seam.


Yarn Marker - This marks the first or last stitch of each round.  It can be a simple strand of scrap yarn to mark the stitch or a bread twisty tie.

Single Crochet Decrease - Insert the crochet hook through the stitch, wrap the yarn over the hook, pull the yarn through. Insert the hook through the next stitch,  wrap the yarn over and pull it through.  There are three loops on the hook.  Wrap the yarn over and pull through all three loops.

Chain 4, join.
Round 1: Work 12 SC through the chain. Do not join and work in the continual round. (12 single crochet total)
Round 2-4:  Work 1 SC in each stitch around  (12 single crochet total)
Round 5: 2 SC in each stitch around (24 single crochet total) 
Round 6: 1 SC in each stitch around (24 single crochet total) 
Round 7:  *1 SC in each of the next 2 stitch, 2 SC in the next stitch, continue around from *, (32 single crochet total) 
Round 8-11: 1 SC in each stitch around (32 single crochet total) 
Round 12: 1 SC in each of the next 6 stitches, CH 3, skip 3
single crochet. 1 SC in each of the next 2 stitches. CH 3, skip 3, 1 SC in each of the next 18 stitches.
Round 13: 1 SC in each of the next 6 stitches,Work 3 SC in the chain, 1 SC in each of the next 2 stitches. Work 3 SC in the chain. Work 1 SC in each of the next 18 stitches.
Round 14 - 17: Work 1 SC in each stitch around (32 single crochet total)
Round 18:  Repeat round 12
Round 19:  Repeat round 13
Round 20-21: Work 1 SC in stitch around (32 single crochet total)
Round 22:  *Work 1 SC in each of the next 2 stitches, work a single crochet decrease(see definition above), repeat from *, (24 single crochet total)
Round 23-24: Work 1 SC in each stitch around (24 single crochet total)
Round 25: *Work 1 SC in each of the next 2 stitches, work a single crochet decrease(see definition above), repeat from *, (18 single crochet total)
Round 26: Work 1 SC in each stitch around (18 single crochet total)
Round 27: Work 9 Single Crochet Decrease
At this point, you do not want to secure or knot the opening.  The legs will be worked.  We will come back to this and unravel a few stitches to put in the stuffing. 

Legs - Make 4
There will be four openings at the bottom of the pig belly for the legs.  All four will be the same.
Round 1: Evenly work 10 single crochet around the opening.  We will continue with the continual round
Round 2: Work 1 SC in the next stitch, Work 2 SC in the next stitch, continue around from * (15 Single Crochet total)
Round 3-4: Work one single crochet in each stitch around
Round 5: Work 1 SC in the next stitch, Work a single crochet decrease (10 single crochet total)
Cut off a long length of tail, knot and secure.  Thread your needle and weave through the last round of stitches and pull the round shut.  Knot, secure and sew in the tail.

Eyes - The eyes can be worked before you add the stuffing or you can sew them on at the end. If you are using plastic of glass eyes, you will want to do them before stuffing and closing.
Work a chain 3, join.  Sew to head between rounds 4 and 5.

Stuffing the Pig
At this point we can stuff the pig legs and body. You will probably need to undo the last round of single crochet decrease stitches on round 27.  Once you get the pig stuff, work round 27 with the single crochet decrease.  Knot and secure.  Thread your needle and weave through the opening and pull the stitches shut.  Knot and secure, weave in the tail.

Tail - Work a chain of 10 -  Work 2 Slip stitch between different threads.  It should curl.  Once you get to the other end, weave your needle on one side and slightly pull to make the tail curl more.  I found this way made a thinner tail.  You can also work the tail with 2-3 single crochet .

Ears - Start with a magic circle or chain or 3
Round 1: Work 6 single crochet,  (continual round - see above for description)
Round 2: Work 1 SC in each stitch around.
Round 3: Work 2 SC in each stitch around ( 12 single crochet total)
Round 4: Work 1 SC in each stitch around ( 12 single crochet total)
Work a slip stitch in the next stitch to even off the round. Cut off some extra yarn.
Sew the ears to the head at approximately round 8 and 9.  When you are finished, knot and secure the yarn.  Weave between the stitches and weave to the inside of the pig and cut off the yarn.

You can make this pattern all one color or change colors.  For a different look, you can work additional single crochet row for a wider band between the shell row.  Tinker around with the stitch combination and have fun.

Stitch Instructions and Definitions
Continual Round:  Instead of joining, work a single crochet in top of the first stitch. Working a continual round will eliminate the unsightly seam that occurs with joining a round.

Yarn Marker: A yarn marker is used to identify the first/last stitch of each round. This is so you have an idea when to change rounds with your instructions.  I use left over yarn tails, which are convenient, easy and free.


Chain 4, join with the beginning chain.

Round 1:  Work 10 single crochet through the chain. This is working around the chain, putting your hook through the center of the chain.  (10 single crochet total)
Round 2-6: Work 1 single crochet in each stitch around.  (10 single crochet total)
Round 7: Work 2 SC in each stitch around.  (20 single crochet total)
Round 8: Work 1 SC in the next stitch, work 2 SC in the next stitch  (30 single crochet total)
Round 9: Work 1 SC in the next stitch around (30 single crochet total)
Round 10: Work 1 SC in ea of the next two stitches, work 2 SC in the next stitch  (40 single crochet total)
Round 11: Work 1 SC in ea stitch around  (40 single crochet total)


Scarf:  Work a chain of 45
Round 1: Work 1 SC in each stitch across
Round 3-8: CH 1, Work 1 SC in each stitch across


Fringe: Cut several strands of yarn 4-6 inches in length. To attach, fold the strand in half, insert your hook through the yarn. Put the hook through the end of the scarf, wrap the yarn strands over, pull through and secure.

Definitions
Front Post Double Crochet - Put your hook to the right of the stitch, around the post and up the opposite side.  Complete the double crochet.
Left Hand Front Post Double Crochet - Put your hook to the left of the stitch, around the post and up the opposite side. Complete the double crochet.

Back Post Double Crochet - Put your hook to the backside right of the stitch, around the front, to the left. Wrap the yarn over, pull it through, complete the stitch.
Left Hand Back Post Double Crochet - Put your hook to the backside left of the stitch, around the front, to the right. Wrap the yarn over, pull it through, complete the stitch.

Continual Round - Put your hook through the top of the first stitch and work the single crochet or stitch that you are working.  This technique is worked instead of joining, to eliminate the seam that will show up when you join rounds.

Yarn Marker -  Marker for the first stitch of each round. I use scrap pieces of yarn to mark the first stitch. 

Work a loose chain of 42. Make sure the chain is not twisted. Join with the beginning chain.


Round 1: Work a chain 1, this will not count as a stitch.  In the same chain, work one double crochet. Work one DC in each chain around for a total of 42 double crochet. Join with the beginning stitch.


Round 2-3: Work a chain 1, this will not count as a stitch.  We will be working a series of post stitches. *Work a front post double crochet. (see definitions above for details on how to work the FPDC) Work a back post double crochet for each of the next two stitches. (see definitions above for details on how to work the BPDC, continue around from * for a total of 42 stitches. Join with the beginning stitch. Cut the yarn and change color.

Round 4-11: Attach the new color of yarn to the top of any stitch. Work a chain one, single crochet in the same stitch.  Work 1 SC in each stitch around for a total of 42. Work the continual round.  You may want to use a yarn marker to mark what would be the first stitch in each round.  Upon completion, cut a long length of tail. This will be used to sew the top of the cap shut.


Thread your tapestry needle and turn the cap inside out. You will skip 6-7 stitches on each side, sewing the top, center shut. Knot and secure the strand when you get to the to the other side.  Hide the tail between the stitches. Flip the cap right side out.

Cap Corners: Attach the yarn to any stitch in the corner of the stitches that were left un-worked.  Work three rounds of single crochet. This is to make the corner stand up a little higher than the rest of the cap.  Both sides will be done the same way. Slip stitch to finish off, cut off some extra yarn.  Weave the tail through the last round, pull the top shut.

Attaching Pom-Pom: You will run your needle through the center of the pom-pom 5-10 times making sure it is secure. When you go back through, make sure it is slightly over from where you came up so you don't pull your yarn through.  When it is secure, make a knot underneath the ball. Hide the tail between the stitches.
