  1. Thanks so much for posting the video and the instructions. I made this hat for my Nephew, and fits great. However, I want to make one for a one-yr old, how can I alter the pattern to increase the diameter of the hat? Thanks! Seema

  2. Hi Teresa: Wonderful videos. Keep 'em coming!

  3. Thanks for the vid. I made this cap and it came out perfect! Would love to use the same pattern for my four year old Twins.

My question is the same as Seema's. How do I alter the pattern to increase the diameter of the hat?

  4. csriz,
The sizing I have is 19-20" for a child size head. If you can, take a measurement of the child head so you can make a custom fit. Recently I posted instructions for an adult stripe beanie cap and spiral cap. It has the flatter top like the baby beanie you are talking about. I used a size "I" crochet hook. The cap is a snug fit already so you can reduce the size without altering the pattern by using a smaller crochet hook. The size hooks I have in mind are an F or G. That should take the size down for a 4 year old without altering to much. If you want to use a size "I" hook, you can just stop increasing after round 7 with 48 single crochet. I am including the 2 patterns that I have been writing to you about. They are both written with the same amount of stitched only one is with stripes and the other is a spiral. Let me know how it works.

  5. Teresa,
Thank you so much. I will definitely let you know how this turns out. Right now I am baby beanie crazy. I have made three so far and working on another as I shared pictures of them with friends and they wanted one for grand children that are babies:)

  6. Teresa,
csriz her again. I want to attach a pom pom to the baby beanies I have made and I believe you have a video that shows how to do that. Can't find it. Would you put that link up for me.

BTW: I am working on the white single crochet baby beanie and having a ball:)

    Thank you

  7. csriz,
Here is the yarn ball and sewing it on the hat.

  8. Teresa,
Thank you so much it worked perfectly.

The white single crochet baby beanie is now being worn by my co-worker's granddaughter:)

  9. Made the flat top beanie with size F hook. Worked out just right. Gave them to the Twins for Christmas. They loved them.

I've moved on to flowers and am enjoying your vids very much because they make it so easy.

Thank you for your help and Happy New Year.

  10. HI
May I ask what yarn you are using, everytime I try this my hats come up much smaller than the one on the video. Thanks Amy

  11. this video is really helpfull.Could you please show me how to make earflap cap for 6 month baby

  12. Hi Teresa,

Your videos are amazing. Its really so sweet of you to share so much of your knowledge to millions of us.

I tried this bennie cap with 3.25 mm needle and 4-ply yarn. When I completed row 5, it was not a flat circle. It is too wavy.. kind of a flower. Is it because of smaller size hook? If I try with 4mm hook, will it work fine or am I making some other mistake.

I started this cap with great hopes but quite disappointed now. Can you please help me out?

  13. Anitha,
A 4mm hook is equal to the size G that I used so it should work for a larger size.

  14. It's a lovely hat and have almost finished my first and am not really a crocheter. Thank you so much for sharing your patterns and for posting tutorial, which was such a help to me. Now I'm looking forward to making the flower to attach to the hat.

  15. farlie01,
You are welcome, I appreciate the comment.

  16. Teresa,
I hardly know you, but I absolutely love your work! I love, love, love how you've created videos, on how to crochet certain things, I certainly know that I learn better/faster when I'm shown how to do things vs. being told how to do them. So, thank you for taking your time to write down the directions and for creating the videos. However, I've been having a problem, I'd like to make some hats for my son and daughter- their head measurements are 18.5" and 17". I want to make the hats by adding more stitches, but I've got no idea how many stitches I need to add in order to make the hats. Would you mind emailing me with the correct amount of stitches that I need to add, and the step by step directions to finish the hats from there. My email address is
Teresa I really do appreciate all that you do, thank you.

  17. Hi Teresa,
Thank you so much...I am learning so much from your blog and videos...

here is the link to my work, I tried making baby beanie, it does not look like yours but I will get there because I have professional help of yours. My brother had a baby girl and I want to gift her something hand-made. Thats how I came across your site. It is so beautiful.

  18. Hi Teresa, I am Indonesian. I have a new born baby and ur video inspiring me to give my baby a wonderful hat. U r best. Thanks! Ana

  19. I love your videos and website!! I recently had my 1st baby, a little girl, and your videos have helped me make many cute little baby beanie hats for her to wear this cold winter! I've even added flowers to them to make them extra special. :)

I do have a question--I would like to make larger hats for my nieces, ages 5 months and 17 months. How do I go about making a lager hat?? Do I just add more stitches in the beginning, when I do the 11 in the ring, do I just increase that to say 15 or more? I've looked at your sizing chart for hats, but I'm just a little lost when it comes to making the hat larger....

  20. Just wanted to thank you SO very much for posting this pattern and the corresponding video. I'm a soon-to-be mom and have been stuck on bed-rest for 4 months now (2 more months to go...yay!)and wanted to teach myself how to crochet a few baby things. I'm more of a visual learner so the books I had were not too helpful. Loved your video and really appreciate it! This hat will look great on baby!

  21. Tiffany,
The easiest way to make a cap larger is to use a larger crochet hook. If that is not enough, you will work in more increase stitches and around to modify for a larger head.

  22. Teresa,
Been crocheting for a long time but I do love your videos and patterns! Somehow, simple is prettier!
Question: My friend would like me to make this beanie for her granddaughter. (She'll be born on March 30th!) She want's something more 'open'. do you think a half double crochet, chain one, half double crochet to work the body would still give the beanie enough substance?

Thanks for all the patterns and videos!

  23. Hi there. I am a beginner and I really like this pattern because it's so easy. Like others I'd like to make a bigger hat. If I use a bigger hook would I need to use different weight yarn? Thanks

  24. Thank you! I have been trying so hard to figure this crochet thing out as something to keep myself busy while on bedrest, i have managed lots of circles but nothing helped me actually make a thing like your video! i still think i did it wrong since its way too small to fit baby, but at least it resembles a hat! im gettin there! LOL

  25. THANK YOU! How would you trim this if you didn't want the brim to flip up?

  43. To connect more with your audience, you need to understand their tastes and preferences, and Custom Beanies hit the right spot. In chilly winters, all you think about is covering yourself properly when going out. And there is no better way to make your business public by handing out beanies to your audience for maximum brand visibility. For me it is really a clever strategy that more businesses should tap into.
