Abbreviations
SC = Single Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
SL ST = Slip Stitch
CH = Chain

CH 4, join.

Round 1: Ch 3, 2 DC in the loop,* CH 2, 3 DC in the chain loop, complete 3 times total from*, CH 1, SC in beginning CH 3. This will put you at the center of your chain space.

Round 2: Ch 3, 2 DC in the same CH SP, *CH 1, 3 DC, CH 2, 3DC in next CH SP, Complete 3 times total from *. CH 1, SC in beginning CH 3 to join.

Round 3: Ch 3, 2 DC in the same CH SP, *CH 1, 3 DC in next CH SP, CH 1, 3DC in next CH SP, Complete 3 times total from *. CH 1, SC in beginning CH 3 to join.

Round 4: Ch 3, 2 DC in the same CH SP, *CH 1, 3 DC in next CH SP, CH 1, 3 DC in next CH SP, CH 1, 3DC in next CH SP, Complete 3 times total from *. CH 1, SC in beginning CH 3 to join.

Round 5: Ch 3, 2 DC in the same CH SP, *CH 1, 3 DC in next CH SP, CH 1, 3 DC in next CH SP, CH 1, 3 DC in next CH SP, CH 1, 3DC in next CH SP, Complete 3 times total from *. CH 1, SC in beginning CH 3 to join.

    I was looking at a blanket my aunt made a long time ago and my mom told me it was made from granny squares. I'd never crocheted before (I do knit and finger knit though), but I decided that I wanted to learn how to crochet granny squares. Many restarts and an hour and a half later - with the help of your youtube video - I've completed my very first granny square! Thank you SO much!!!

    Just wondering if your instructions should be the same as your YouTube video on how to crochet a traditional granny square? In the video you say to ch3; the instructions on here say to ch4.

Baby Afghan - I chained 100 for the baby afghan and used a size K hook and 4 ply yarn.

Multiple: 5

Materials
4 ply yarn
Size K crochet hook - You can use other size hooks for this project

Abbreviations
SK - Skip
Ch - Chain
DC - Double Crochet
EA - Each
SP - Space

Drop Stitch - The drop stitch will be worked below the two previous row of shell stitches. Wrap the yarn over the hook, insert the hook 2 rows below, between the shell stitches, pull the yarn up. Repeat one more time for a total of 5 loops on the hook.

Row 1: DC in the 4th CH from the hook, DC in the next CH, Skip 4 chains, in the next CH(5th chain) work *2DC, CH1, 2DC, SK 4 CH's, Repeat from * across for the width, 1 DC in ea of the last 2 chains.

Round 1: Ch 2, 11 HDC in loop, do not join. (12 HDC)

Round 2: 2 HDC in-between each HDC; (24 HDC) mark beginning stitch with marker.

Round 3: 1 HDC in-between next st, 2 HDC(HDC INC) in-between next st; (36 HDC)

Round 4: 1 HDC in-between ea HDC around to beg marker.

Round 5: 1 HDC in-between each of the next 2 st's, 2 HDC in next space; continue around to beg marker. (48 HDC total)

Round 6-21: HDC in-between each HDC around to desired length of cap.

Extended or Long Double Crochet - This is where you will work a double crochet several stitches below the row you are on. You will need to pull up on the stitch and allow for some additional yarn, so the stitch does not sag.

Multiple: 4
You will add 4 chains for each segment of the pattern stitch that you want to add to the width.

Example: If you want to make a baby afghan with a size I/5.5mm crochet hook, 4-ply yarn, you will chain 108. This will give you an estimated width of 34 inches.
