Skill Level - Advanced Easy

CH - Chain
SL ST - Slip Stitch

((    ))  -  Working Between - There are instructions repeated between the parenthesis.

Size P/11.5 mm crochet hook
4 ply yarn
Tapestry Needle

You will need 2 strands of 4 ply yarn - 2 separate sources to work with.  I will refer to them as Yarn Ball A and Yarn Ball B to distinguish which source of yarn you are working with.

They can be wound up into balls or worked from skeins.  You will be flipping your work from one end to the other.  When you add the chains on your hook, it is will come from Yarn Ball A.  When you work the chains off, it will come from Yarn Ball B.

This cap will be worked with the continual round.

NOTE - The size of the chain can be larger or smaller.  The technique will still work.

Using Yarn Ball A: Work a chain of 40, make sure your chain is flat, not twisted, then join.

Round 1: Continuing with Yarn Ball A, ((*Put your hook through the chain yarn over, pull through. Continue from* until you have several loops on your hook,

flip your work around, we are working at the opposite end, working with Yarn Ball B and taking the loops off of your hook. Wrap the strands over your hook, pull through one loop, *yarn over pull through two loops, continue from * leaving a couple loops on your hook and flip back around, continuing with Yarn Ball A and adding loops on your hook. ))

Working between ((       )) until you are back around to the beginning with 40 loops.  Do not join.

Your yarn may twist with the flipping, so this is something to keep in mind.

Round 2 - 18:  working with Yarn Ball A, put your hook through the first vertical loop, yarn over, pull through, yarn through the vertical loop pull through,  continue until you have several loops on your hook, flip around, working with Yarn Ball B, start removing the loop, yarn over pull through 2 loops until you catch up to where you left off. Continue around to the beginning and for the length.  (40 stitches)

This next round will be a decrease round. We will be working from 40 stitches down to 20.

Round 19:  Adding the loops will be done individually, the decrease will be made when you flip around, as you take the loops off, wrap the yarn over pull through 3 loops, wrap the yarn over pull through 3 loops. Continue around, there will be 20 loops upon completion.   (20 stitches)

Round 20:  As you are picking up the loops onto the hook, be sure to put it under both of the loops where you decreased on the previous round,  yarn over pull through two loops to take off, continue around to the beginning.  (20 stitches)

There will be no more decreasing unless you want to modify and do more for your hat.

Round 21:  Wrap color A over the hook and pull through color B.  Pull the two colors snug.  We will be crocheting over color B.  *Put your hook below the vertical loop and color B, work a single crochet. Continue around from *. Work a slip stitch to join. Wrap the yarn over pull through.  Cut a long tail for both strands, knot and secure. (20 single crochet)

Thread a large tapestry needle, weave through the top of the stitches and ease the top shut.  Knot, secure and hide all your tails.
