Abbreviation Chart

This is some of the more common abbreviations that you come across in the written instructions for crochet patterns.

Learning to read and write crochet patterns is the same as learning a different foreign language.  There are many ways. Crochet is full of shorthand abbreviations.  Each author is going to have a different way of expressing their written instructions. Countries and individual people around the world have different ways of expressing crochet written instructions.   Just like an author expresses a story in a book.

It takes time to learn how to interpret written instructions, the same as it take times to learn crochet stitches.  Keep practicing and it will start to make sense.
